September’s craft beer events in Miami send your taste buds back to suds school

September (the seven-sided month) is here and for all intents and purposes we’re at the fall season’s starting gate. For many, it’s a time to restart, and whether you love fall fashion or football season, it’s one last stress-free month before the holidays run away with your money and sanity. Here’s a bunch of Miami’s best craft beer events for September you can consider one long Oktoberfest pregame.

Tuesday, September 10, 6 p.m.

Local monkey-stylin’ homebrewers, Moron Brothers, will be pouring some of their fine brews at World of Beer Kendall on Sept 10. Event goers can expect to go ape for “‘Wake the Dead’ breakfast stout and ‘The Hopfather’ hoppy pale ale.” The tasting is expected to go quickly so get there early or you’ll be left a disgruntled gorilla.

Friday, September 13, 4  – 7 p.m.

Total Wine in Kendall will be hosting a tasting of New Orleans’s Abita Brewing Company beers. If you haven’t tried Abita beers, this is a good time to acquaint yourself with the raspberry complemented Purple Haze, Amber Ale, summer seasonal Satsuma Harvest Wit and my favorite standby English brown ale, the Turbodog.

This Total Wine happens to be located among all your errand hot spots, so time this right and you can turn your suburban grocery trip into a case of Publix intoxication.

Saturday, September 14, 5 p.m.

How much Wynwood brew would a woodchuck chuck at wood tavern if a woodchuck could … ah, forget it. I could never say that three times fast. Take your favorite woodchuck to Wynwood Brewing Company’s soft launch party at Wood Tavern in Wynwood.

The brewers will be all over Miami’s bars and restaurants this month, rightly promoting and celebrating their launch with discount drafts and gear giveaways. See the full list of events here.

Monday, September 16, 6 – 8 p.m.

Join Tony Albelo and the Grovetoberfest crew for “Dark Side of the Moon,” another installment of the upcoming craft beer festival’s free tastings. This time they’ll focus on the darker, roasted malty concoctions like porters, stouts and hopefully throw in some quad or Belgian strong dark action.

It all takes place at Brickell’s OTC Restaurant, where it’s just short of pre-destined that you’ll be getting that short rib and brie grilled cheese. Get there early and don’t forget to RSVP.

Saturday, September 21, 4 p.m.

Counteract some of those “liquid bread” calories with a little fresh air and cycling at the Beer Snob Bicycle Pub Crawl VIII. It’s just a 9 mile ride but if you only drink half as much and make two rounds, you might actually calorically break even.

Plus, when you hang with these guys you get discounts at some of the best craft beer bars including The Abbey on South Beach, GrampsWorld of Beer MidtownThe Filling Station and Napkin Grill. Get on your bikes and ride!

Monday, September 23, 8 p.m.

Miami Beer Tour and Wynwood Brewing Company are teaming up for their official launch, an event aptly called Hopztoberfest which will all go down at Gramps in Wynwood on September 23.

The party will feature tasty Wynwood Brewing staples, “La Rubia,” blond ale; “Pop’s Porter,” robust porter; and “Wynwood IPA,” India pale ale. All Wynwood beers will be $5 each. There will also be $3 select craft beers.

So get out there and support local beer! It’s all happening…

Monday, September 23, 6 – 8 p.m.

I like big bottles and I cannot lie. Apparently neither can Grovetoberfest. Join them in Downtown Dadeland’s Barley and Swine restaurant for “Big Bottle Bonanza” free tasting event, where they’ll be sampling some more rare big-bottled brews in anticipation of the big event on October 19. Remember to RSVP on Facebook and get there early!

Friday, September 27, 7 – 11 p.m.

An event celebrating fried chicken and champagne, Cluck Miami will bring together top restaurants and purveyors of bubbly to sample their goods and benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities in South Florida.

Cluck Miami has also taken Gravity Brewlab under its wing, where they will have a special brew made for the event. There no better way to get clucked up for a good cause.
