August sizzles with Miami’s best craft beer events

Blecchh, in case you haven’t noticed by your back-of-the-knee-sweats, it’s August in Miami, and it’s a white hot hell out there. Luckily for us hopinistas, there’s nothing more refreshing than tasty craft beer. After a brief summer lull, it seems the events are back in full swing (the beer gods must have listened to our swear-littered cries and watched our ritualistic twerkin’). In short, it’s a month brewed with great events. Get out your bookmarking finger, people:

Aug. 7, 6 – 8 p.m., Gravity Brewlab is teaming up with South Beach Italian restaurant, Pubbelly’s Macchialina Tavernia Rustica, to host craft beer happy hour where you can indulge in Chef Pirolo’s porchetta sandwich and a Gravity Brewlab “Saizonetta” (traditional Belgium) beer for just $5.

Aug. 7, 7:30 p.m., OTC Brickell, “The Summer Dinner”: Pop up dinner with Chef Sam Gorenstein from My Ceviche will include “hors d’oeuvres and three courses served family style.” The dinner will be paired with Ommengang, Funky Buddha and Due South beers. Cost is $45 per person.

Aug. 7, 7 p.m., Sports Grill South Miami is hosting a Funky Buddha Tap Takeover including Raspberry Floridian, Pineapple Hop Gun IPA, Cucumber Basil Wheat Ale, Last Snow, No Crusts Peanut Butter and Jelly Brown Ale, OP Porter, Hop Gun, Florida Hefeweizen.

Aug. 10, 9:30 p.m., Coconut Grove’s Lokal is presenting a J.Wakefield Tap Takeover, a donation based event asking $5 per glass; with the first 25 donations receiving a free JWB snifter. Beers will include Master Blaster Porter, Hops in Session IPA, Barrel Aged DDT, Mate Bliss, The Nothing (Gmorks Revenge), plus two TBA Berliners.

Aug. 11, 11:30 a.m., Craft Brewjas Reverse Tap Takeover: The Brewjas are taking over The Funky Buddha and then Due South Brewery, taking tours and tap rooms by storm. It’s their way of saying thanks to the breweries for all the great brews that have traveled around South Florida. Cheers to that!

Aug. 12, 6 – 8 p.m., Grovetoberfest Tasting #2 – Paleo Aleos, Titanic in Coral Gables will host Grovetoberfest’s (Oct. 19) second free tasting, where they will feature pale ale by the tiny pail full.

Aug. 17, Barley and Swine will have their first “Made in Dade” beer dinner that will include five courses paired with local brews from Miami Brewing Co., Wynwood Brewing Co., Gravity Brewlab, MIA (Most Wanted) Brewing Co., and more. Cost is $60 per person.

Aug. 19, Founders Brewing Distribution Day – Hooray! Another great brewery is bringing its fine products our way. It’s been reported we’ll be seeing some All Day IPA, Centennial IPA, Dry Hopped pale ale and Dirty Bastard Scotch ale pop up in stores and on taps, but you’ll have to just hunt around to be sure.

Aug. 22, 7 p.m., National Simul-Tap Event for Stone Brewing Co.’s Ruination IPA Grapefruit Slam at World of Beer will feature the newest limited edition as well as the brewery’s staples and other rare favorites on tap including the 2010 – 2013 vertical series of Imperial Russian Stout, the new collaboration R + R Coco IPA and my personal new obsession, the W00Tstout.

Aug. 23, Aug. 31, DRB Moving Parties: After just a brief 4 years, The Democratic Republic of Beer’s (DRB) 225 location will be permanently closing its doors come Sept. 1. Not to worry, the 501 location will remain open and better than ever, and the staff is bidding the old locale adieu with major perks all month. The best of which are the moving parties which will include OPEN DRAFTS from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. (31st only) and from 1 to 2 a.m. The 31st party will be an all-nighter as staff will be giving away literal pieces of “The Original DRB”, more prizes and free beer.

Aug. 26, 6 – 8 p.m., Grovetoberfest Tasting #3: World of Which Craft?, World of Beer Dadeland will host the third free tasting to promote Grovetoberfest (Oct. 19), which will feature some international craft beer favorites.

Aug. 29 – Sept. 2, Key West BrewFest –  A beer fest in paradise you say? I’m Heming-way down. The five day fest will have beer dinners, educational seminars and of course, a Grand Tasting Festival on Aug. 31 from 4 – 8 p.m. that will feature over 100 beers to sample on the sand including local brews from B.R.E.W. FIU, Opus Ales, 4th Age, Moron Brothers and live reggae with Toko Irie. Tickets for the grand tasting are $35 pre admission and $40 the day of the event.

TBA: The Abbey Brewing Co. Founders Brewing release party, which should be great!

Continuing deals: $4 select craft beer bottles at Brewski’s every Wednesday.

This list will continue to grow as organizations update their info, so check back often!
